São Carlos National Theatre – TNSC

Architect José da Costa e Silva

São Carlos National Theatre (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos – TNSC) is an opera house built in 1793, in Lisbon, Portugal.

One of the most interesting architectural features regards the ceiling height of its corridors. For a building of this kind, the corridors height is extremely low, somewhere between 2,40m.

Photographing it was like taking a journey back in time. The baroque decoration, together with its golden ornaments, really make us feel as member of the 18th century Bourgeoisie.
