São Carlos National Theatre – TNSC

Architect José da Costa e Silva

São Carlos National Theatre (in Portuguese Teatro Nacional de São Carlos – TNSC) is an opera house built in 1793, to replace the formed opera building destroyed by the devastating earthquake of 1755. One of the most interesting architectural characteristics has to do with the ceiling height of its corridors. For a building of its nature, the corridors height is extremely low, at somewhere between 2.40m.
Notwithstanding, a visit to the theatre is definitely well worth.
