Foreword by the architects:
East Wing Terminal Expansion
The new East Wing expands terminal capacity while improving the passenger experience and back-of-house operations.
It supports future growth and strengthens daily airport functions.
At the departures level, a new food concept activates the space next to four gate lounges and two bus gates.
Level three allows space for offices and potential immigration and emigration facilities.
The East Wing also connects SLN21 with a future East Pier.
This link improves passenger flow, airside operations, and long-term flexibility.
Flexible Gate Lounges and Unified Design
The South Terminal expansion creates smoother circulation, clear orientation, and more generous waiting areas.
Flexible gate lounges allow the terminal to adapt to changing travel needs.
The design responds to the existing terminal and creates a unified architectural identity.
A light-filtering façade uses silver and bronze glass that blends with the Icelandic landscape.
A Nordic Heart: The Tectonic Concept
The interior feels warm and welcoming through the use of timber floors and wall finishes.
These materials complement the soft tones of the façade.
Nordic Office of Architecture developed the Tectonic concept to express a timeless and Icelandic identity.
Inspired by shifting tectonic plates, varied roof forms and openings bring changing natural light into the heart of the terminal.
