In Line with the Client’s Values
The new Landsbankinn headquarters in Reykjavik reflects the core values of Iceland’s largest bank. The building engages actively with the city and responds to both raw Icelandic nature and Reykjavik’s historic urban fabric. Through its open and site-specific design, the project supports Landsbankinn’s ambition to stay closely connected to the outside world.
The architecture creates a dynamic, flexible, and efficient building that functions as a new landmark in Reykjavik.
Inspired by Icelandic Nature
Iceland’s natural landscape strongly influences the design. Volcanic basalt stone, horizontal rock layers, and the atmospheric qualities of caves and clefts shape both the exterior and interior architecture. As a result, the building expresses a clear connection to Icelandic nature, from the façade to the internal spaces.
Flexible, Efficient, and Open Architecture
The internal organization aligns with Landsbankinn’s vision of an outward-facing public realm. Most public functions are located on the ground floor along the building’s façade. This layout activates a new pedestrian street that leads toward Harpa Concert Hall, strengthening the connection between the building and the city.
Inside, a sheltered public passage links these functions and creates a natural shortcut through the urban fabric. At the same time, the office spaces prioritize flexibility and efficiency. Open workplace layouts allow the building to adapt easily to future changes, supporting modern ways of working over time.
